LNC: Advancing Luo Unity through WAN ACIEL Philosophy
By Nokrach, O., (2023)
What is WAN ACIEL?
The Luo National Congress (LNC) is a cultural and political institution centered around the Luo people, united by the guiding principle of WAN ACIEL – a powerful Luo phrase meaning “we are one.” This concept forms the foundation of all LNC activities, policies, and community engagements.
LNC’s Core Mission: Luo Unity Through Action
Unlike many organizations that adopt slogans as mere symbolism, LNC embodies WAN ACIEL in action. The Congress is committed to achieving Luo integration and unity across geographical boundaries, and invites all its members to channel their time, energy, and resources toward the following core goals:
A) EMPHASIZE our Luo heritage, culture, and language.
The LNC prioritizes the preservation and promotion of Luo identity by celebrating our vibrant traditions, language, and names. For example, our classic Luo names, beginning with “O,” “A,” or “U” are a hallmark of our cultural pride.
B) BUILD Luo networks in all spheres of human endeavour.
By fostering collaboration and support within the Luo diaspora and at home, the Congress aims to create lasting bonds that reflect the true spirit of WAN ACIEL unity.
C) DE-EMPHASIZE and delegitimize colonially and foreign created divisions of Joluo into countries, counties, districts and other entities that don’t serve the paramount interest of WAN ACIEL.
The LNC actively challenges the colonial-era divisions—such as national borders, counties, and districts—that continue to fragment the Luo community. These artificial separations, created without the Luo people’s consent, do not align with the unifying mission of WAN ACIEL. Consequently, the LNC does not fly the flags of any black colonial state and other foreign entities that perpetuate these divisions. Instead, it upholds symbols that reflect Luo self-determination, heritage, and unity.
A Call to Action for All Luo People
The Luo National Congress stands as a beacon of unity, identity, and resilience. Through its unwavering commitment to the WAN ACIEL philosophy, the LNC calls upon all Luo individuals to participate in this collective journey—reclaiming our heritage, strengthening our networks, and breaking free from imposed identities.
Join the movement. Embrace WAN ACIEL. Stand with the Luo National Congress.
